Crazy Grandpa McCain can't say much about that because so did he.
In fact, he left his first wife for The Other (much wealthier, and not
in a wheelchair) Woman. In fact, I think Cindy was the 2nd woman McCain
dallied with on his first wife.
They say: Money Changes Everything. I guess so.
But Edwards isn't running for president. He's already said he wasn't interested
in the VP spot either.
The Republicans can't make hay out of this because a whole lot of them
have done the same thing. So...can we stop now?
I'll just say one more thing: at least Edwards wasn't schtupping another
man...and turning around and writing anti-Gay legislation.
Sheesh.
My opinion is thiis: Men Want Pussy.
Yea, I know. That's kind of harsh and crass, but it's true.
I've said it here before. (Hello, Kobe!) It's not about anything but Pussy.
A man can be absolutely in love with his wife...but if some Pussy is dangled
in front of him...and he thinks he can get away with it? He's gonna hit
it.
It's the male animal's biological imperative: To. Get. Laid.
No, I'm not married. No one has given me a good reason to want to be.
A ring on your finger doesn't make anyone stay. Or not stray.
Monogamy is a social construct. One that's never really worked, by the
way.
These days, health reasons is one good reason why monogamy is a good thing.
Religion has nothing to do with it.
It's like the not eating meat on Friday thing? That came from the days
of no refrigeration. They had to make it a religious reason for people
not to eat that week old meat and get sick and die.
The physicans said "Um...don't eat that rancid, rotten, week-old
meat that's gonna make you sick and kill you". People ignored them.
Ate that unrefridgerated meat with the veritable universe of bacteria
crawling on it, got sick and sometimes died.
The Church jumped in and said "God said don't eat meat on Friday!"
and people said, "OK!"
Same with monogamy.
The only reason the Church has gotten all involved in marriage is because
in the olden days, they were the only ones who kept records.
Peasantry didn't "marry", by the way. This was for gentry, land
owners, etc. People with wealth. They had to make sure there were records
kept so stuff could be handed down and kept within noble families.
The clergy were the ones who could read and write. They kept the records.
God really had nothing to do with marriage. It was a business contract,
more or less.
Hell, people didn't really marry for love until quite recently in history.
And in some cultures, they still don't marry for love. "Love comes
later." If you're lucky.
Anyway, where was I?
Oh! Yeah! Men Want Pussy. And they're going to go after it if they can.
They're that...simple.
How else can you explain a man like Kobe Bryant, who has a GORGEOUS young
wife and a couple of kids and more money than he can possibly spend in
his next life, screwing a desk clerk at a hotel?
You can explain it like this: It. Was. Pussy.
Same
with Edwards. Loving and lovely wife, great kids...
And one day....BAM! There it is: Pussy on a plate. Free. No strings.
He could think about his position and all, but....WHAM! It's PUSSY. Right
there.
That's my take on things, and I'm stickin' with it.

Dang.
Another month just flew on by.
It's what happens when you don't really have a life Monday-Thursday.
When I'm not on the computer because I can't stand to sit at a keyboard
when I get home from work, I've been knitting (working on Holiday presents),
reading (Gaiman's Neverwhere
and Moore's Watchmen--the
movie
is coming out next year!), listening to music, watching movies (Batman:The
Dark Knight. See it. NOW. Yes, it is, indeed, all that and
a bag o' chips.)
When I do get on the computer--mainly from Friday morning to Sunday late
afternoon--I lurk around Ravelry, try not to let politics affect my blood
pressure ("We'd like to say that John McCain doesn't speak for the
McCain Campaign"--head of the McCain Campaign. WTF? WTFF?
How come's it that Crazy Grandpa McCain can flip
flop and not know is own ass from a hole in that ground and the mainstream
media just looks the other way...but if Obama is wrong about 1 thing they
play it on a continuous loop 24 hours a day?)

What
with the dumbing down of students in the wake of the demonstrations of
the 60s, I don't think there's very much real study of the Declaration
anymore.
I think had more students read this amazing piece of writing 10 years
ago, we wouldn't be living under the worst presidential administration
since...since...EVER.
If people had any idea about how our government works, why it works the
way it does, and how it was put together, there would have been demonstrations
and the like not seen since the 60s.
When I hear people say (and I have heard people say this) that the Declaration
is "hard to read", I tell them, "Well, yeah, it's
hard to read that script style it's written in....but you would
have no problem reading a printed version BECAUSE IT'S WRITTEN IN ENGLISH.
PLAIN AND SIMPLE.
Barring the fact that some people, a lot of people, are just too damned
lazy to read, there is a way to experience this document. It only
takes about 8 minutes. EIGHT minutes.
So...grab a cuppa (or a glass o') something, sit back and give a listen.

Day all of you Mack Daddies out there.
Damn, it's
hot! No, not just hot: it's bloody hot. It's 106. Yes, degrees.
*Sigh*
I can't bring myself to really bitch about it too much, though. I
mean, it's not even Summer yet.
In the evenings, when I get home from work, I like to sit out on my little
patio as the sun goes down. I guess I do that because I'm cooped in an
office all day. An office with no windows. I go outside when I have to.
Sometimes I go outside for a couple of minutes just to warm up because
my office is freezing. Like in can't-feel-your-hands freezing.
Hence, the cardis. Since I finished the Eyelet Cardi, I'm starting yet
another cardi. It's the "grown-ass" version of EZ's February
Baby Sweater. It's called the February
Lady Sweater.
Fortunately, I have some frogged black Berroco Comfort in my stash. I
cast on this morning and it's looking like it's going to be a quick knit.
So...after giving it some thought, I'm thinking of getting another iPod
with more Gs.
I'm either going to get an 8G Nano RED,
or I'm going to get a Refurbished 80G iPod Classic for a tiny bit
more than for the new Nano. If I get the Refurb, there's no RED version,
which is kind of a drag because I like the RED
concept. It makes me feel a little bit OK about spending that kind
of money.
Yeah,
that new, faster, cheaper iPhone is tasty. But, blah-blah no camera phones
allowed at work blah-blah-blah Prohibited Item blah-blah-blah.
They make you put your camera phone in a little locker outside of
the Badging Office.
Yes. OUTSIDE in the frackin' 115 degree heat in a little metal locker.
WTF? To quote Mr. Monk: "I don't think so."
This year, for my birthday, I'm toying with the idea of maybe getting
a Refurb iMac. Not a bad deal those Refurbs. Apple does the refurbishing
and they make sure that everything is A-OK because...well...it's Apple.
And they have their Rep to watch out for.
I'd go ahead and get the Apple Care and the Warranty extension and the
lot. I want to be able to call someone if something goes amiss. Or, if
need be, I want to be able to pack it up, put it in my little truck and
take it over to the Apple Store.
We'll see...

Something
about this quote really struck me. I've always felt this when I've watched
anyone perform. When I was a dancer, you'd occasionally see someone who
could dance their ass off. They had incredible technique. Everything looked
easy: triple pirouettes, 6 o'clock extensions, perfect turn-out, floating
on air jettes...
But something was...I don't know...cold...about them. Something
was missing.
There was no Soul.
Then you'd watch someone else who wasn't as technically proficient, but
you just loved watching them because they were dancing from their heart.
You could feel it when they danced.
Same thing with musicians. Flawless technique, but no heart. Just flash.
Which can be cool...but is ultimately boring.
Anyway, I just wanted to share that quote.

we are. It's the 30TH of May. We are fast approaching the half-way
mark of 2008.
Either the year is half over, or we half-way to 2009. I guess it all depends
on your perspective of the whole thing.

And I don't know what took me so long, but I finally got Ruben Blades'
2003 Grammy Award winning LP:
Mundo
Daaaaaaamn! No. Really. This album is wonderful. It's been on high rotation
on my iPod for the past week and I never get tired of it.
If you're not familiar with Blades, you really need to check him out.
Not only is he a musician, he's an actor/activist/Minister
of Tourism for Panama/Graduate of both University of Panama Law School
and Harvard Law School. (Damn!)
And the man can write.
His music makes you dance....and the lyrics make you think. Beautiful
poetry.
Anyway, Mundo is a wonderful album. I highly recommend it.
I'm presently
trying to finish up the Eyelet Cardi. All I have to do is do the button
bands (no buttons) and the neck band. Mind you, these "bands"
are 2 rows garter stitch, but because I tweaked the length, I have to
also tweak the ratio of pick ups...and I got one side right. I've ripped
out the other side 2 times already. I know this last time will be The
Charm.
Also cast on a shawl out of the Traditional Knitted & Lace Shawls
book. It's the "New Shale" shawl. I have some Berroco Comfort
that was going to be something else and I decided I want a plain black
lace-but-not-too-lacy stole.
It works up quickly because I'm on a 10...or maybe it's 10 1/2s...have
to check later.
Anyways, I'm also working on 2, count 'em TWO Jitterbug vests and I've
ripped out a couple of pairs of Crazy Monkey socks that were working up
too big. Now that I'm done with the ribbing on one of the vests, my superlong
size 2s are free and I can cast on the socks on a better sized needle.

Seriously, if you're not on Ravelry, ya really need to check it out.
It rocks.

A belated
"Rabbit-rabbit", y'all. The year is closing in oh the half-way
mark. Dang.
I've been awake since about 5am, and up Spring Cleaning since about 6.
Fortunately I'm almost finished so I can go get my sweat on in a few minutes.
I'm back to working out because I had to take it easy for a week due to
some very minor surgery on my foot. So....I'm cleaning
- house. Mmmm...smells
good in here! I have the windows and patio door open...and Rent
is on the DVD player because I can't sit through daytime TV. Fridays I'll
watch Dr Who on SciFi in the morning, and then from then on it's DVDs
or nothing.
Did anyone else see that crapfest so-called "debate" between
Clinton and Obama a few weeks ago on ABC/Disney.
Has it boiled down to flag pins and family friends?
I had a discussion with a co-worker who was thoroughly convinced that
just because Obama has known Rev Wright for 20 years, that he must shares
his views.
What the fuck????
I have people in my family that believe that there was a talking
snake.
They believe that a woman should NEVER be the boss of any man in any circumstance.
And that includes the workplace.
These are people IN MY FAMILY. Does that mean that I believe that shit?
Hell no!
Rev. Wright is NOT a member of the Obama family. Nor is he even the pastor
of that church anymore. He retired a while ago.
Nor is he Barak's "spiritual advisor".
And...by the way, Barak Obama is NOT a Muslim.
Are people in this country THAT stupid? If so, then maybe we do deserve
to have 4 more years of Bush disaster in the form of Grandpa McCain.
I would hate to think that we haven't really come as far as we should
have.
But sometimes I'm afraid that we haven't really come as far as we should

I'll tell
you one thing. Rev Wright said (and I paraphrase) that the United States
believes in white supremacy. And Barak Obama said that when things are
bad, their bitterness makes them turn to things like Religion (capital
"r") and guns.
Well, hmmmm...that's not a lie.
When times are hard, it's easy for people to be led to believe that someone
else (someone not the people in political power whose whole raison
d'etre is to make The Corporation rich) is the threat to their wellbeing.
The Politics of Fear works on people when times are hard.
How the hell do you explain people voting against their own best interest
twice.
They voted for Bush because The Gays wanted to get married!
They voted for Bush because they thought the Democrats were gonna take
away their guns.
WTF!!!
Dammit, people are bitter!!! And they've been Fear Mongered to
vote for stupid shit that has NOTHING to do with their lives. Gays and
Guns...and Abortion.
If you're not bitter when you pull up at the pump and gas is fucking FOUR
DOLLARS A GALLON, then you are a fool. (You know who I'm talking to.)
I'm not going to try to convince anyone to vote for anyone. I will try
to reason with anyone talking about Grandpa McCain, though. I'm going
to start calling him Bush v.2 because that's exactly what he is. Anger
issues and all.
So, that
having been said, I'm working on some Los Monos Locos socks and
finishing up on the Eyelet Cardi. Sleeves took forever to do...even if
you're making them both at the same time on Magic Loop.
I'm also working on a sweater vest and a big basketweave shawl with mitred
squares on the edges.
I also picked up the crochet hook again and made a couple of little scarves
of Queen Anne's Lace stitch.
I'm also making an Infinity Shawl. (Pictures to come here. I have them
on Ravelry.)
Piece of cake. You never forget how to do that stuff. There are a couple
of pretty things from Stitch Diva that I'm thinking about making that
remind me of the things I used to make when I was in Jr. High.

Last, but not leastly:
Today I found this cool little applet and am using it to give you an idea
of what I'm listening to these days.

The first thing I searched for and loaded was Mozez,
who my partner in crime Ms. Fi introduced me to during a daytrip to L.A.
How come I never heard of Mozez?! How come he doesn't get any airplay?
Oh. That's right. It's because I live in frackin' Las Vegas where the
radio is shite and people haven't heard anything unless it's on ClearChannel
radio. And being that he's a black Brit, the music industry here can't
pidgeonhole him easily.
Then I looked for a bit o' King
Crimson. They rule. Absolutely. (Saw them in L.A. in 1983 or so. Still
one of the best shows Ever.) Robert Fripp, Adrian
Belew, Tony Levin (who also
plays with Peter Gabriel)
and Bill Bruford.
Amazing musicians.
Then I found my girl Imogen
Heap. I first heard a bit o' Hide and Seek while driving home
from work one night.
It was the end of the year...a drizzly nighttime commute home and on NPR
they were talking to music critics about their Best Songs of the Year.
The music director from KCRW (*mwah*! I love you, KCRW.) played
a piece of this song and at the stop light I was listening...and holding
my breath. The song made me stop breathing.
This little list will change.
Like my iPod, I'll be swapping things in and out.
